Charles Farnham was the son of Thomas Jefferson Farnham, and Eliza Wood Burhans, a famous author, and nephew to Eliza's sister Mary Burhans Roberts, who was married to John Montgomery Roberts. Both Mary and John Roberts are buried in the Roberts Cemetery. From John Montgomery Roberts' diary:

"August 14th. Mr. Farnham's little boy died and was buried by the side of my wife Mary, which makes three new graves in two weeks—how uncertain is life."
