Theodore, the son of David Jennings and Matilda McCabe, was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a resident of Denmark, Lee County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private on 24 Oct 1861 at the age of 20 years. He mustered in Co G 4th Iowa Cavalry on 27 Nov 1861. Re-enlisted and re-mustered 12 Dec 1863. Promoted to 6th Corporal on 1 Jan 1865, to 5th Corporal on 1 Mar 1865, and to 4th Corporal on 1 Jul 1865. He mustered out on 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

After his discharge, he returned to Lee County and in March of 1867 married Mary Ellan Atherton. They had two known children: Ida May and Emma.

In December of 1884 Theodore married Barbara Ann Smith. After his second marriage he resided in Van Buren County, Iowa.

Theodore died in 1918 at the age of 78 years.
