ALGOMA RECORD HERALD, Algoma, Wisconsin, Friday, June 18, 1943: Michael Culligan Passes Suddenly - Services Friday at Haucke Funeral Home; Military Rites at Evergreens
Michael Culligan, 47, died at the Algoma hospital Tuesday evening at 10:05 and funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. H. F. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist church, Friday afternoon at 3:15 at the Haucke Funeral home. The Ernest Haucke post of the American Legion will be in charge of the burial rites at the Evergreens cemetery.
Mr. Culligan had been taken to the hospital Monday evening. He had been seriously ill for two weeks but, apparently, suffered from an extreme diabetic condition for some time. Diabetes caused his death.
Deceased was born in Algoma Aug. 5, 1895, and spent all his life in this vicinity excepting for the period of army training he underwent during World War I. He trained in the South but before he was assigned to overseas duty the armistice was signed. For 28 years he was employed in the plant of the Algoma Plywood & Veneer company. He never married.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Umberham, Algoma; one brother, R. B. Culligan, Ashland; four sisters, Mrs. J. P. (Katherine) MacManus, Chicago; Mrs. Stanley (Margie) Flower, Grayling, Mich.; Mrs. Peter (Loretta) Charles, Chicago; Mrs. T. H. Hopkins, Chicago; and one half sister, Mrs. William (Cora) Albrecht, Algoma. One half brother, Theodore Umberham, preceded him in death 11 years ago.
