Margie Norwood Jackson, 95, of Dallas, died April 8, 1994.
She was born on June 20, 1898 in Stevenville, Alabama. She came to Texas with her mother Temperance Hall Norwood in 1899 to join her father, Samuel Willis Norwood, who was building a cattle ranch outside of Shamrock in what is now Samnorwood.
She attend SMU where he graduated in 1918. After graduation, she obtained employment teaching English and history in Electra. Two years later she moved back to the family ranch to teach school in shamrock until she met and married Earl Jackson of Dallas in 1921.
Mr. Jackson, formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, later became executive vice-president of Hillcrest State Bank (now Texas Commerce Bank Hillcrest) and first choir director of the new Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
She was a member and former president of the HPPC Women of the Church and a member of the Dallas Women's Club, where she served on the Executive Board for two terms. She served on numerous other civic and church boards and wanted to be remembered as a lifelong student of the Bible, the English language an of Texas, US and British history. She was the last survivor of six children.
She had two sons. Her son, George Norwood Jackson, died off Okinawa in World War II. She is survived by her son, Earl Norwood Jackson of Dallas and her daughter-in-law, Jane Patton Jackson, formerly of Atlanta, GA.
She is also survived by her three grandsons, George Norwood Jackson and his wife, Mary, Thomas Patton Jackson and his wife, Lynn and Earl Norwood Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, all of Dallas.
