Margaret Timmins Bailey, age 90, passed away on July 4, 2012 at home in Provo, Utah. Margaret was born in Smithfield, Utah on December 7, 1921 to William Mont and Mary Brighton Timmins.
Margaret graduated from East High School and the University of Utah (Summa Cum Laude) where she earned membership in both Phi Kappa Phi (for science) and Phi Beta Kappa (for liberal arts.) She went on later to earn a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California. She worked during World War 2 at Hill Air Force Base and after the war for LDS Social Services. After nearly twenty years of raising her family she returned to work, for the Los Angeles, California Department of Family Welfare where she became a Supervisor of Child Protective Services.
She married Robert Bennett Bailey on January 8, 1943. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children, sixteen grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.
A life-long active member of the L.D.S. church and held almost every calling open to a woman. She was also active in P.T.A. and the Sun Valley Women's Club.
After their retirement, Bob and Margaret returned to live in Utah, having lived in California for 35 years. During "retirement" they served four L.D.S. missions: Pennsylvania, France, Scotland, and Nauvoo.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, her sons Robert (Sandy), David (Mary), Matthew (Charlotte), and her daughter Candace Munoa (Philip.) She is also survived by her brother James, her sister Verna (Smith), and her sisters-in-law Lola (Gygi) and Theda (Laws). She was preceded by her brothers Bill and David, and granddaughter Jennie Lee Bailey and great granddaughter Elise Munoa.
Services will be 11:00 am Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Edgemont L.D.S. chapel, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo. Viewing will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn in Salt Lake City. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
