"Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." 2 Corinthians 3:17.

Thelma Ruth Berkenbile, 87, received the liberty Wednesday, July 4, 2012. She was born Oct. 29, 1924, on her family farm, southwest of Hennessey, the child of William and Pauline Winters.
As a child, she attended Victory School and Harmony Church, where she came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior, at the age of 9.
On Nov. 16, 1946, she and Hollis Berkenbile were married. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage before his passing in April 2000. She and Hollis lived east of Hennessey early in their marriage, eventually moving to the Winters Homestead in 1958, where they raised their five daughters.
Thelma was a member of First Baptist Church, Hennessey, where she spent many years serving her Lord as a Sunday school teacher and working in the nursery. Her faith was lived out in the many ways she selflessly gave and invested in the lives of her family and others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leo Winters; and sister, Mae Jones and her beloved husband Hollis.
Memorial donations may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children Boys Ranch Town of Edmond, with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
A service of celebration will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Hennessey. Burial will follow in Hennessey Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey.
