Shirley Jean Ricks Hamblin, 61, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 3, 2012. She is now reunited with her Father in Heaven, parents and future grandchildren.
Jean was born Oct. 19, 1950, to Thomas Arnold Ricks and Shirley Amelia Smith. Born a twin, the oldest of six children, she learned how to work hard at a young age. She became industrious out of necessity. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, skills that became essential in later years when raising her family.
Jean met her eternal companion, Merlin Dee Hamblin, and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple on June 1, 1973. Seven wonderful children and 22 grandkids were born as a result of their union.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she held many callings, her favorite being Primary president.
Her life revolved around her family. She was a wonderful mother, coach and friend. She loved coaching and watching her children and grandchildren play sports. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Everyone was always welcome at Merlin and Jean's for a home cooked meal.
Mom always said, "Remember who you are." We'll move forward with our heads held high.
Jean is survived by her husband; children, Allyson (Daren) Vandever of West Point, Utah, David (Andrea) Hamblin of Idaho Falls, Shannon (Bill) Echternkamp of Magna, Utah, Julie (Michael) Saunders of Kaysville, Utah, Kyle (Lindsay) Hamblin of Clinton, Utah, Ashley (Jared) Scholes of Ogden, Utah, and Brenda (Michael) Matthews of Vernal, Utah; and 22 grandchildren with another due in September. She is also survived by five siblings, 16 in-laws and her mother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Raymond Hamblin; two brothers-in-law; three nieces; and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Gailey Park Ward Chapel, 331 S. 50 West in Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Kaysville City Cemetery.
