Life's Work/Service/Interests: Hubert was a lifelong member of the Vanceboro community in Craven County. In 1934, he married Beulah Morris and they were blessed with seven precious children. He spent a major part of his life traveling with the Rev. Sam Worthington in the work of ministry and music, where he loved old gospel songs and playing his guitar. He and his brothers, sisters and children, would spend many joyful hours singing and playing music together, and what wonderful memories they are. Hubert was a member of the Vanceboro Masonic Lodge AF and Am #433, serving as master and as chaplain. He was involved with the Masonic Lodge Order for 45 years as a dedicated Mason. Hubert was a member of the Scottish Sudan Temple and Rite Bodies, and also a member of the West Vanceboro Church of God. Hubert C. Lilly, of Vanceboro, North Carolina, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at age 90.
Survived By: Three sons: John H. Lilly (Virginia); Sammy Lilly (Edith), and Jason Lilly (Helen), all of Vanceboro; three daughters: Sally Jane Smith, Betty Louise Wilson and Glenda Carol Lilly, all of Vanceboro; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Vernon Lilly, of Greenville; James A. Lilly (Connie), of Vanceboro; sisters: Lera L. Mantyla, of New Bern; and Irene Hoell (Buck), of Vanceboro.
Preceded In Death By: His wonderful wife, Beulah Morris Lilly; daughter, Annie Marie Nobles; two brothers; and one sister.
