OBITUARY "L. W. GIBBS died very suddenly at the home of his daughter Mrs. R. Anderson, Tuesday Feb. 19th in his 84th year. He was a native of Minnesota and came to California in the evening of his life. The body was interred in the W. O. W. cemetery north of Clovis."
OBITUARY in Minnesota: "DIED IN CALIFORNIA--Former Hennepin County man passes away in far west-- News has just been received from Clovis Calif. by Mrs. Alfred Gumbrill of Anoka, of the death of her grandfather L. W. GIBBS. He was one of the oldest settlers of Hennepin County where he owned a large farm up to one year ago, when he sold and moved to California with his youngest daughter. He was born in Vermont November 6, 1821 [sic] and moved to Minnesota when a young man. He helped survey the first road to Monticello and was one of the first white men to enter the northern part of Minnesota. Mr. Gibbs was a great hunter, having been presented with a gun at the age of 9 and killed his first deer at age 11. He was well aquainted [sic] with many of the Anoka hunters. He also hunted all day the day before he died February 19, of 1907. He was a member of the Minneapolis Rifle Club for many years and was awarded a gold medal for the best long range shooting in the U.S. at the age of 61 without glasses. He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Albert DUTTON of Robbinsdale and Mrs. Robert ANDERSON of Clovis, California."
