Ann E Pierce, Early Resident of County Dies
Miss Ann E Pierce, 97, pioneer resident of Adams county, died Friday morning at 6:50 in her home, 248 Broadway. She had been confined to her home for several years and had been bedfast for several months.
A daughter of John and Mary Ann Hardesty Pierce, Miss Pierce was born in Gilmer township March 1, 1852. The family homestead was located in the neighborhood of the old Mt Pleasant school and church south of St Joseph church. Miss Pierce attended Mr Pleasant church until she left that vicinity. At the time of her death she was a member of Vermont Street Methodist church.
The parents of Miss Pierce lived in Winchester, Pa., following their marriage and later moved to Middletown, O. They came to Adams county from Ohio in 1840. Three children were born to them in Middletown and three in Adams county. Miss Pierce was the last member of her family.
For many years she and a brother, I L Pierce, lived together on a farm in Gilmer township. Later they moved to Bowen and in 1927 came to Quincy. I L Pierce died in June, 1930. Following the death of her brother, Miss Pierce lived alone but had a housekeeper to care for her needs. When she was 87 she had an operation for the removal of cataracts from her eyes which enabled her to read and crochet in the latter years of her life. The sister an brothers who preceded her in death were Mrs Alvira Carlin, Samuel Hyndman Pierce, Isaac Lee Pierce, Thomas Polk Pierce and John Franklin Pierce.
Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, including Clyde and Ralph Pierce of Quincy and Elmo of near Quincy, sons of the late John Franklin Pierce; Mrs Richard Ketchum of Urbana, Mrs Grace [Pierce] Walker of Lompoc, Cal., Ed Carlin, Mrs Anna Keller and Mrs Flora Bashem, all of Bowen, and Albert Carlin of Texas. There are a number of great-nieces and nephews also.

Pallbearers were Roy Martin, Lee Sharrow, Paul Pierce, Richard Pierce, Emerson Fehlberg and Russell Tenhouse.
