Our beloved mother was born on March 13, 1931 in Lovell, Wyo., the third daughter of the late Joseph and Wanda Simons Adams. After a brief illness, Doris was taken gently into the loving arms of our lord Jesus on June 30. As a young girl, mom lived in several locations in Wyoming and Montana. She completed her education in Billings, Mont., where Doris met her future husband, Horace F. Bathurst, a young war veteran who was employed as a taxi driver in Billings. "Bat" was truly smitten with her, but it took a while before Doris agreed to marry her dashing airman. They were wed on July 22, 1952. Before their marriage, Bat had re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, which sent the young couple off to several remote assignments for the next several years. The highlight was a four year stint in Bitburg, Germany, with two young daughters, Marva (Sis) and Carrie, in tow. Many happy, lasting memories were created and remain cherished family lore. After their return stateside, their son, Tracy (Buddy) was born. They eventually landed in Layton where Doris and the children could be close to family while Bat made one last overseas tour before retiring from military life. Doris was widowed on May 17, 1997 while residing in Tooele. She relocated to West Jordan where she made her home until her passing. Mom remained active while pursuing her hobbies of reading, embroidery and the daily goings-on of being a mother and grandmother to her family. Doris read her newspapers daily to stay informed, and magazines to keep up-to-date with pop culture. She also enjoyed the friendships of her neighborhood community. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Marva, and sisters Carol Qualls, Cheirl Kimble and June Davies. She is survived by her children, Carrie (Vincent) DeCaria, Tracy (Monica) Bathurst, 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, James M. Adams, of Ogden, numerous nieces and nephews and her little dog Rocky. Funeral services will be held July 6 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
