Ethel McKinley Wolf was born March 4, 1897 in Bates County, Mo., and departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 8, 1974 at a hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the last surviving member of a family of six children born to George W. and Elizabeth Kennedy Wolf. In 1913, she was united in marriage to James Hancock and to this union was born one son, Lesly, both of whom preceded her in death. In June 1924, she was married to Dexter D. Bassett and to this union were born five daughters. Following the death of Mr. Bassett, she moved to North Las Vegas, Nevada, where she resided until the time of her death. Ethel accepted Christ as Savior at an early age and was a faithful Christian throughout her lifetime. Survivors include the five daughters, Helen B. Hall and Shirley (Mrs. George) Weber of North Las Vegas, Nev., Bernita (Mrs. Eugene) DeShields, Las Vegas, Nev., Marvel (Mrs. Carl) Walker of Butler and Rose (Mrs. Carl) Brickle of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Northside Church of Christ in North Las Vegas, Nev. Graveside services were conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery by Billy Moore, minister of the Church of Christ in Butler, Mo., on Thursday, Sept. 13.
Ethel loved children and the following tribute was penned by a dear friend in memory of her.
Just a little house on the corner, with pretty flowers and trees, and if you looked close, you might see her perhaps with a child on her knees. She lived in that cute little house, and labored from morn to night. Children ran in to be greeted, it was always love at first sight. The world hurried by with its problems, but she labored on as before, in that little house on the corner, behind the unlocked door. But now, Grandma's work is over, she's tired and needed a rest, so she's moved to a beautiful mansion, prepared by the Lord for His blessed.
