Alexander Comyn Wallace, age 91, died at his Holladay, Utah home, May 17, 1992.
He was born September 13, 1900, to William R. and Annie M. Wallace, of Salt Lake City. He was a brother of former Mayor John M. Wallace and Henry A. Wallace, both of Salt Lake City, and William R. Wallace Jr., of San Francisco, Calif., all deceased. He married Agnes O'Brien in 1935; she died in 1946. Married Margaret Terry, May 26, 1954.He is survived by his widow; two stepsons, Robert Terry, Salt Lake City; John brent Terry, Oakland, Calif.; two nephews, M. Walker Wallace and William Wallace, Salt Lake City; a niece, Rosemary Wallace Gutwillig, Greenport, New York.
He was educated in Salt Lake City schools, Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1925. After graduation he was employed by the Hope Engineering Co. of Florida. He served several years as Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He then returned to Salt Lake City, to join his father in family business. He subsequently became vice president and sales manager of Utah Oil Refining Co. before it was merged into American Oil Co.
In addition to his business activities, he accompanied his father on a number of notable trips to foreign countries including South Africa, China, India and the Soviet Union, some under the auspices of the State Department during a period when Mr. Wallace, Sr. was Chairman of the Utah Water and Power Board and in demand as an expert on water conservation.
Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 11 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 1992, under the direction of Larkin Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Homeless Shelter, c/o Travelers Aid Society, 210 So.Rio Grande St., Salt Lake City, UT 84101.
