Earl Bartels Dies in Hospital at Amarillo After Several Days Illness

Earl E. Bartels, 26, a farmer who has lived on his farm seven miles north of Guymon all his life, died Friday afternoon in the hospital at Amarillo, after an illness of several days.

Doctors reported that Bartels died from acute poisoning caused by carbon tetrachloride used in extinguishing a fire under his farm home about two weeks ago. The fumes under the house were absorbed into his body, causing his death.

He is survived by his wife, Cordelia, three daughters and three sons, all under 12 years of age. Their names are Geraldine, Marilyn, Linda, Arnold, Norman and Wayne.

His parents are Mr. & Mrs. Otto Bartels and there is one sister, Mrs. Leo Bauer.

At the time of his death one daughter, Marilyn, 5, was in the Guymon Municipal hospital with a broken leg, and a daughter, Linda, 3, was under a doctors care for a rare form of anemia.

Funeral services for Earl Bartels will be at 2 p m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church . Interment will be at the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

Tenative funeral arrangements of which Merett's Mortuary is in charge, have been set for Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church here, of which Bartels was a member. Services will be conducted by Rev. Robert E. Meier.
