Marianne Kaminski, daughter of Frank and Agnes Kaminski, was born Nov.13, 1904 in Johnstown,Pa. On June 13,1920 she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. She received her name in religious life, Sister Mary Bertha, on July 27,1922 when she began her novitiate. On July 27,1926 Sister Mary Bertha made her perpetual profession of vows. Sister Bertha was a school teacher for 57 years. She taught at St. Casimir and at Sacred Heart in Cleveland, Oh. , St. Pancratius in Chicago, Ill. and St. Stanislaus Kostka in Youngstown, Oh. She also served the Congregation as a local treasure for 10 years, local secretary for 4 years and assistant superior for 8 years. At age 75 Sister Bertha returned to the Motherhouse where she did light duties and made crocheted and tatted items such as scarves, afghans and hankies. After her eyesight failed, Sister Bertha dedicated her life entirely to prayer. After 76 years of service to her community, Sister Mary Bertha died on October 28,1996 at the age of 91.
