Richard married
(1) Maryann Dockey, 26 Dec 1836. Their children: Horace, Sarah (md. cousin Lorenzo Zimmerman), Martha, Reuben, Helen (md. Addison Brasted), Orville (b. 1848, died in infancy), Milton, Alice.
(2) Maria Winnie, March 26 1854, Howard, Steuben, New York. Their children: Byron, Amy (md. Frank Haskins), infant son.

There was a tall monument with "ZIMMERMAN" across the base with "RICHARD" at the top, "Maria" just below and "Maryann" on the left. Markers for Richard and Maria were on the right side of the tall monument, and the marker for Maryann on the left. Markers were also placed for children Alice, Byron and Martha, and for an infant son of Richard and Maria. [Earl & Mary Zimmerman's 1968 visit to cemetery, reported in 1976 Zimmerman family history]

Richard's parents were Conrad Zimmerman and Anna or Nancy Snell. (Probably her two given names were merely different versions of the same name.) They married on 6 May 1804.

Conrad's parents were William Conrad Zimmerman and Catherine (Failing) Zimmerman. They married on 8 Sep 1777.
