MAUMEE

A surprise dinner was given at George W Starnes Saturday, Oct 6th, 1888. The friends took him by surprise; his brother John came & decoyed him away & on returning at noon found 54 of his friends present & a nice dinner set for the occasion.
George was born Oct 6th, 1838; was born & reared near here. He spent his early life as a farmer & when he reached the age of 21 years; 3 days, he married Miss Ellen C. Mitchaner(sic). To them were born two children, Mrs. James Hill & Miss Winnie Starnes.
He was a soldier in the late war having served three years, three months & five days.
The dinner that was set for him was the nicest we have ever seen & all passed off smooth. He is now rejoicing over having reached the age of 50 years. He has been a member of the Baptist church for 30 years; he is a man respected & esteemed by all who knew him; he says he thanks his friends for the kindness shown him & also for the fine cake left for him.
