Entered the U.S. Army on November 25, 1917 at Indianapolis and was sent to the training center at Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, where he was assigned to the Signal Corps, Aviation Service. He had an operation performed on Christmas Day 1917 and died from complications at Fort Thomas on January 6, 1918.
His father, Lafayette, had died in San Antonio, TX a few hours earlier on the same day. After family members returned with the bodies, Lafayette and George were buried at the Jonesboro cemetery on January 11, 1918.
