John Preston Guthrie, 65, long-time resident of this section, died today at 11:10-am at his home, 4106 First street, following an illness of two months. Funeral services will be held at 4-pm Thursday at the James-Coker-Peters Funeral Home.

Rev. W.O. Majors, pastor of Lamar Baptist church, will conduct the services and burial will follow in East Mount cemetery. Pallbearers will be Oscar McCown, Lib Hart, R.W. Cooper, Henry Miller, Bill Hooten and J.A. Burchett.

Born in Albany, Ky, August 15, 1883, Guthrie came to Texas with his parents, Abigh Guthrie and Sara Cowan Guthrie in 1892. He had lived in and around Greenville since that time. On Aug. 11, 1911 he was married to Mamie Robinson, Guthrie followed the occupation of paper hanger and painter. He belonged to Lamar Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Richard Price, one grandson, two brothers, C.S. Guthrie, Greenville; W.M. Guthrie, Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. T.M. Shelton, Greenville; Mrs. Carl Horton, Dallas; Mrs. J.W. Broome, Lubbock; several nieces and nephews.
