John Edward Hubbard, 85, of Chatham, died Feb. 9, 2004, at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born May 9, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Dewey Lee Hubbard and Gertrude Nuckols Hubbard.
He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, Truett McConnell College and the New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He served on the North American Missions Board in Oklahoma and New Mexico with the Native Americans. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Payne Hubbard; two daughters, Kittie H. Cassity and Mary H. Tucker; five sons, John E. Hubbard Jr., Phillip W. Hubbard, Stephen Hubbard, C. Michael Hubbard and Robert M. Hubbard; two sisters, Barbara H. Green and Naomi Ross Hubbardt; brother, Charles R. Hubbard; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother, Frances Gregory, Marjorie Payne and Roland Hubbard and two grandchildren.
Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
