John G. "Mac" McFarlen, 88, of Odessa died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at home. Mac was born November 22, 1914, in Hatchel, Texas.

He was a paratrooper in the Pathfinders unit of the 101st Airborne and was the first enlisted man to land on Normandy on D-Day.

Mac married Emma Lucille Minshew on February 8, 1947. They were married 56 years. He is survived by his wife, one son, three daughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.

Mac was a cement contractor. He was a life member of the VFW Post #4372. He served as Post Commander from 1967-1968 and as District Commander from 1968-1969.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.

Mac's grandchildren and great-grandchildren will greatly miss their "Papaw".
Memorials may be given to Odyssey Health Care of Odessa.
