Co F 8th Alabama Cavalry CSA.He enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 17 and was later assigned to the re-organized unit, 8th (Livingstons) Cavalry Regiment. It was engaged at Ten Islands, served in Western Florida, then sustained heavy losses in the conflict at Bluff Spring. By February 1865, its strength had grown to 600, but after skirmishing in Alabama, few were present when the regiment surrendered at Gainesville May 4 1865.

Married Sarah Jane Cunningham in Alabama in 1864.
