Son of William Perry Morrison, brother of James N, Lawson Pinckney, Thomas, Jacob, Miller and Margaret Morrison. He and Frances Louisa Taylor were married about 1865.

He is buried beside his son James Lafayette "Fate" Morrison.

The location of Grandpa John's grave was verified by the books in the caretaker's building at Mountain Rest.
