Baptized Dec. 19, 1752 at Saint Thomas Church in Portsmouth. He became Archdeacon of the city of Richmond, Yorkshire, and rector of St. Benet Paul's Wharf in London. He also served as Chaplain General to His Majesty's Armed Forces in 1810, and addressed British troops on the eve of the 1815 Battle of Waterloo. He was still Chaplain General at the time of his death, when he was also serving as the rector of St. Martins Church in East Horsley, Surrey.
