LIGHT JOHN, Soldier of the Revolution came to Portland from Butternuts, Otsego Co., NY in 1818.--Born about 1749. Died Oct. 21, 1828, in Westfield, Chautauqua County, N. Y. Grave in Portland Cemetery. Served as private in New York troops in the Revolutionary army, and is mentioned on the Pension List of 1819 as residing in Chautauqua County, N. Y. Little is known of his family history. Came to Portland in 1818. Children: Abigail, Jacob, John, William, Elizabeth, Israel Soldiers of the Revolution * Other notes He died in abt 1827 found dead in his field. Mrs. Light died the next day. (her name not given) Abigail LIGHT Fellows was his first born child. m Ezra Fellows in Saratoga county, where Mr. F. d. in 1820. John Light also has children: Jacob, John, William, Elizabeth, and Isabel - siblings of Abigail. Abigail is here All of his sons were in the army in the war of 1812. Mr. and Mrs. L. and most of their family were members of the Baptist church in P. Family of Mr. and Mrs. Light – ABIGAIL: m. Ezra Fellows in Saratoga County, where Mr. F. d. in 1820. Mrs. F. came to P. in 1825 and purchased the Nathan Fay farm, p't of lot 25, T. 5. JACOB: m. Rachel _** ROGERS b 1792 lived for some time on the farm now owned and occupied by D. P. Benjamin; he d. in Michigan. JOHN: m. Prudence ____; d. at Butternuts, N. Y. WILLIAM: m. Ruth Allen; was afterward twice m.; lived on the farm now owned by A. A. Moon, in Pomfret; d. in Westfield, this county. NOTE: d. 1891 ELIZABETH: m. 1st Samuel Ketchum; 2d, Calvin Wooden; lived on p't of McCabe farm. ISRAEL: m. Polly Price, dau. of John Price. Mrs. L. is living in Hanover, this county, and Mr. L. near Flint, Michigan.
