Oren Davie Sherman, son of James Edgar and Johanna Sherman, was born at Wheaton, Kansas, on Jan. 5, 1879 and passed away at ST. John's Hospital, Iola, Kansas, on September 5, 1951, at the age of 72 years and 8 months. His boyhood days were spent in Greenwood County, in the vicinity know in earlier days as Tipperary. In his early 20's he moved to Quincy, where he made his home, and for severalo years bought furs and did carpenter work. He joined the Masonic Lodge May 5, 1921 and became a Master Mason July 21st of the same year. In 1946 he became elegibel for and received his 25 years pin.
He was uited in marriage to Myrtle Myers on Jan 25, 1928. Later that year they move to a farm S.E. of Toronto where he farmed for 7 years. On cotober 21, 1935, he moved to the City of Toronto, where he spent his remaining years following the carpentry trade. Preceding him in death were his father, mother a sister and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, one step - daughter, Mrs. Edna Bell and husband Roy of Coffeyville, Kansas, one step - son Paul Myers and wife Irene of Toronto, two step grandchildren Patsy and Mary Lynn Myers; one brother Rufe Sherman of Hamilton, Kansas a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held in the Toronto Methodist Church on Friday afternoon Sept 7 with Rev. G. A. Overholt officiating, Mrs. John Lindamood, Mrs. The War, Mrs. Nelson Bisagno and Mrs. P. N. Slough sang. "Safe in the arms of Jesus:, and "Good Night down Here, Good Morning up there', with Mrs. Barney Brown as acompanist. Pallbearer were Howard Estep, Ralph Cooper, Hartel Dyer, Emery Williams, Frank McCurdy and Lester Ward
Interment was in the Toronto Cemetery with the Woodson Lodge No. 121, A.F. & A.M., in charge of the grave side services.
