PASSED AWAY AT 6 O'CLOCK THIS MORNING
---------- FUNERAL FRIDAY -----------
At his late residence, 1602 Drake Avenue, John See, passed away at 6 o'clock this morning, after an illness covering seven months, he was conscious up until the last, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and five children, Ellis and Sherman of Centerville, Anthony of Unionville, Mo., Mrs. Jennie Middleton of Centerville, Mrs. Martha Winn of Crawfordsville, Mo.
Mr. See was born in Kentucky, near Louisville, October 17, 1834, came to Missouri in an early day and settled near Lancaster, Mo. He moved to Centerville twenty-two years ago. Mr. See was a civil war veteran and enlisted in Co. _ , Mo. Infantry, 15th Armatour and was a prisoner at Libby prison for 6 months.
The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the family residence, conducted by Rev. Mr. Swan of Plano. Mr. See requested Rev. Swan to conduct the services and also that the Grand Army take charge, he was loyal to his country.

Verne Middleton was given a copy of a letter written just prior to death, by his great-grandfather, John See. It was a very touching missile, as he wrote as though he was conversing with each of them. He indicated that if a minister was needed for his final rites, he had a choice. A Preacher Swan from Plano.
Such a letter would have been almost too personal to have been made public earlier, but now, after all these years, [78 years] it becomes a historical document that the descendants will enjoy time and time again. Thanks to Verne for sharing. Besides the Middleton family, this would also be the great-grandfather of Harley, Clyde and Virginia Ranes, [Virginia McDonald-Vicevich] of rural Centerville.
