Louise A. Ogden

Louise A. Ogden, 61, of Amherst, passed away, Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Virginia Baptist Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of her loving husband of 37 years, Robert Jackson Ogden.

Born June 12, 1951, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Hazel Audly Fralin Altis of Shawsville and the late Herbert Willard Altis.

Louise was the co-owner of Lou's Antiques in Amherst and Danville and a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She was very well respected in the local communities because of her antique expertise of 36 years. She was loved and cherished by everyone, especially Amber Gee and son Brian and her beloved chihuahua, Dotty.

In addition to her father, Louise was preceded in death by her brother Larry Darrell Altis.

In addition to her husband, Louise is survived by four children, Melissa Smith and her husband Leon of Christiansburg, Melvin Wayne Blankenship and his wife Faith of Dillwyn, Brian Keith Blankenship and his fianc‚e Amber Gee of Amherst and Tonya Maria Sprouse and her husband Bruce of Amherst; four siblings, Douglas Wayne Altis and his wife Robata of Dekalb, MO, Bruce Altis and his wife Lisa of Shawsville, Debbie Vaught and her husband Larry of Floyd and Lori Rodriquez and her husband Jose of Rustburg; eight grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Alaney Blankenship, Elisia Blankenship, Chloe Smith, Brian Blankenship, Jr., Cassandra Blankenship, Bryan Sprouse and Brittany Sprouse; one great-greatchild, Gabe Matney; her aunt Eleanor Futon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Rev. Kelvin Brown, Rev. Stan Ogden and Rev. Judy Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends, 6-8:30 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Oncology Department of Lynchburg General Hospital or the Virginia Baptist Hospital Skilled Care Unit.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Lynchburg General Oncology and the Virginia Baptist Skilled Care for their wonderful care given to Louise.
