Wetzel County's oldest resident, age 108, passed away at the home of a son, William "Willie" Quinn of Smithfield, W.Va. With the exception of several years spent in Harrison County, W.Va., the centenarian had lived almost his entire life in Wetzel County. A son of the late Michael and Anna Boice Quinn, the deceased was born in Northern Ireland on March 4, 1828. His parents brought him to the United States when he was six weeks old. The family made their journey across country from the sea coast to settle in Greene County, Pa. When Henry was five years old, his parents emigrated to Tyler County, Virginia, building their log cabin on the headwaters of what is now Trader's Run in Wetzel County. At that time, there were but a few trails and paths through the timber-studded mountains of this region and to do their trading the Quinn family had to travel to the Ohio River at New Martinsville and later on to Mannington and Logansport, W.Va. Michael and Anna Boice Quinn reared a family of 14 children. They lived to advanced age and were buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Five Points. When a young man, Henry Quinn married Phoebe Jane Miller. Several years after the death of his first wife, Quinn married Mary Miller, one of Phoebe Jane's nieces. Among Mr. Quinn's survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Miller Quinn; three children by his 1st wife, J. Ellis Quinn of near Clendennin, W.Va.; William Quinn of Smithfield, W.Va.; and Mrs. John (Amanda) Long of Sawaska, Okla.; the following children by his 2nd wife: W. R. Quinn and Virgin Quinn, both of Lumberport, W.Va.; Stephen Quinn of Francis; Mrs. E. R. (Elizabeth) Lowe of Eldersville, Pa.; and Ernest Quinn of Avella, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Quinn Robinson of Shinnston, W.Va.; 66 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services, in charge of Rev. Harry W. Flanagan, pastor of the St. James Methodist Episcopal Churh, were held from the home of his son, William Quinn. Burial was made in the Cain Cemetery at the mouth of Stout Run, near Smithfield, W.Va.SOURCE: "Wetzel Democrat", New Martinsville, W.Va., Feb. 6, 1936
