John Richard Bowen, Sr., age 86, of Murfreesboro, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at MTMC. Mr. Bowen was a native of Rutherford County and son of the late John C. and Alta George Bowen.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Reverend John Herdman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Bowen is survived by his wife of 62 years, Oleda Jones Bowen; son, John R. Bowen Jr. and his wife Rita; brother, Paul Bowen and his wife Gisela; two sisters, Cassie Rose and Ann Davenport and one granddaughter Dianne Spjut and her husband Benjamin all of Murfreesboro.
Mr. Bowen was a member of Wayside Baptist Church where he served as treasurer for many years. He attended Chrichlow School and was a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Army. Mr. Bowen was a retired firefighter with Murfreesboro Fire Department where he served for 30 years.
Family will serve as active pallbearers. Members of Murfreesboro Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. 893-5151
