He was a Constable in Patrick County and was found shot in the stomach at age 42 and died about a week later. It is believed he was ambushed and shot by moonshiners. He left behind a pregnant wife and 7 children; the oldest 18, the youngest, Julia Mae, was around 3 years old. The baby born 7 Dec 1894 did not survive.
