Clyde Lindsay Bennett, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

Native of Spartanburg County, husband of Ella Gilmer Bennett; son of the late Benjamin Bookter and Iola Jane Scott Bennett.

Owner and operator of Penny’s Alignment Shop, member of the Ruritan Club, an Army veteran of World War II.

Oldest living male member of Cannon’s Campground United Methodist Church; member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Doris Bennett of Spartanburg; two brothers, Claude E. and J. Wallace Bennett, both of the Cannon’s Campground Community; two granddaughters, Scarlette Lynn Tapp of Tryon, NC, and Lindsay L. Bennett of Spartanburg; two grandsons, Joey M. Bennett of Okinawa and Joseph Lee Bennett of Spartanburg; and a great grandson, Michael Andrew Bennett, of Okinawa.

Visitation was held 10:00-10:45 AM Friday, December 28, 2001, at Cannon’s Campground United Methodist Church.

Funeral services followed at 11:00 AM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Jim Johnston. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Wally Bennett, Lynn Gilmer, Harry Gilmer, John Wilkins, Barry Gilmer, Franky Gilmer, Benjamin Bennett, Terry Gilmer, Tommy Gilmer, and Tot Bennett.
