A resident of Batchelor, he died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at 10:15 p.m. He was 98, born Aug. 2, 1913, in Jacoby. He had been a farmer, cattleman and foreman with Pointe Coupee Electric, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in New Roads.

He is survived by four children, Julian Brooks and wife Rita Gail, Ella Louise Chustz and husband M.J., Willis Brooks and wife Linda, and Lorraine Harthcock; grandchildren, Pamela Courtney, Jeffrey Chustz, Wendy Durning, Holley Telling, Susan Cretin, Rachel Remble and Diana Unay; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife, Irene Magee Brooks; son, Charles Douglas Brooks; parents, Henry Terrell and Ella Brooks; brothers, Oscar, Tillman and Mack Brooks; sisters, Sarah Saltzman, Cora Brooks and Carrie Hymel. Also son-in-law, Herbert Harthcock and daughter-in-law, Rosemary Brooks.

Graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery of the Lower Latanache Baptist Church of Batchelor on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m., with Brother Jason Bazer officiating.

Pallbearers will be Geren Brooks, Roland Brooks, Eldon Brooks, M.J. Chustz, Jeffrey Chustz and Dennis Unay.

Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Hymel, Wilborn Brooks, Brian Remble and Chuck Everett.

The family is so appreciative of the care given by the sitters, Albertha Derosin, Bobby Washington, Odelia Richard, Hospice of Pointe Coupee and family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Pointe Coupee.
