Michael immigrated in 1857. He was the son of Adam Ankenbauer and Margaretha Barth. He married Martha E. Atteberry on 18 JAN 1878 in Carroll, Carroll Co., IA. They were the parents of George, William, Frederick, Zella, and Maggie. He married 2nd Anita Ford on December 18th, 1920. they were the parents of Jean and Bobby.

Carroll Times - Wednesday , October 24th, 1928 - Dedham - Mike Ankenbauer died at his home here Thursday afternoon of heart failure. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Interment was made in the Dedham cemetery.

He had been in poor health the past year with heart trouble but seemed as well as usual Thursday. He had been out in the yard and as he returned to the house he took in a small chunk of coal and as he reached the front porch pitched forward dead. Mike as he was familiarly known was a pioneer of Dedham having been engaged in the barber business here for the past twenty years. Previous to that he lived on a farm southeast of town where his children grew to manhood and womanhood. Mike was of a cheerful nature and counted his friends by the score.

Michael Ankenbauer, son of Adam and Margaret Ankenbauer was born in Bavaria, Germany, April 23, 1855 and departed this life October 18, 1928 at the age of 73 years 6 months and 5 days. Mr. Ankenbauer, with his parents came to this country when he was ten years of age, the trip being made in a sailing vessel and was a 45 days duration. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, where Mike joined the state militia, later learning the barber trade which trade he was following until a few months ago. Some years later he moved to Carroll County, Iowa. Living one mile west of Carroll for one year after which he purchased the farm in Eden Township southwest of Dedham where he resided until he moved to town.

At the age of 21 he married Miss Martha Atteberry and to this union 5 children- George, Will, Fred, and Zella, a little daughter, Maggie having died in infancy. His wife passed away in 1915.

On December 18th, 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Anita Ford to which union two children were born-Jean and Bobby. Mike was a loyal American citizen and always interested in the good of the community. He was a member of the M. E. Church.

He leaves to mourn his death a wife, four sons and two daughters besides a host of friends.

His funeral was held at the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon. Rev. Harwood and Rev. McLane officiating. He was buried in the Dedham Cemetery by the side of his wife. His six grandsons -Glenn Bernard and William Ankenbauer, Harlan and Vinson Roderick and Henry Weitl elected as pallbearers,- Dedham correspondent
