Father William Jordon Ray, mother Mary Isabel Jarboe Ray. Avis Hubbard married 15 Aug 1916. Two children, Kenneth William and Jessie.

Charles W. Ray, 88, of Route 2, Lincoln City, a former Tell City resident, died at 11:50 a.m. Monday, April 9 at Perry County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient two days. He had been failing in health and semi-bedfast since 1969.
The son of the late William Jerden and Mary Josephine Jarboe Ray, he was born March 20, 1887 in the Ranger area of Perry County.
He attended elementary school in Perry County and received his higher education at Bristow Academy for Teachers Valparaiso University and State Normal at Terre Haute.
Ray taught at various schools in Perry County for a number of years.
As a young man he went to South Dakota where he served for five years as superintendent of the state farm at the State Hospital in Yankton. He served in the post approximately five years.
It was in South Dakota where he met and married his first wife, the former Avis M. Hubbard.
Following their marriage the couple returned to Tell City to make their home.
In the 1940's he served a term as treasurer of Perry County.
He also was employed for some time as a traveling auditor in southern Indiana for the Indiana Gross Income Tax Division during the administration of Gov. George Craig.
At one time he operated Ray's Liquor Store in Tell City.
His wife Avis died in 1966.
In November 1967, he married Violet Mercer Anderson of Spencer and since that time Ray and his wife operated a ceramic and art studio near Lincoln City.
Surviving besides his wife Violet are a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Hicks of Tell City; a sister, Mrs. Francis Lutgring, Tell City; two brothers, Thomas of Vallejo, Calif., and Roscoe of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.
His sisters, Josie, Gertrude and Florence are deceased.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at St Paul Catholic Church, Tell City. The Rev. Joseph Zilliak will officiate. Burial will be in St Mary Cemetery.
The body is at the Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home where the Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
