WILLIAM H. BROWN DEAD
William H. Brown died at 9:30 o'clock last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. A. Windell, on East South Avenue. He had been a sufferer of cancer of the throat for the past year, and had been confined to bed for four weeks.
William H. Brown was born in Shelbyville, Tenn., March 31, 1835. When 16 years old, he moved with his family to Missouri. He came to Kansas in 1858 and was married three years later to Miss Nancy Fowler. He enlisted in Company H, Seventieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, in which he served till the end of the war. He was a member of the G.A.R. Post 55, and of Garfield Circle many years. Mr. Brown is survived by four children. They are Mrs. T. A. Windell, Emporia; Frank Brown, McAlester, Okla.; Harry M. Brown and Mrs. James Hunt, Kansas City. He leaves a brother, Wiley Brown, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Emily Van Gundy, of Cajou, Calif., and a brother-in-law, A. H. S. Bigley, of Emporia, with whom he lived for the past thirty years, except during his recent illness.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Windell, on East South Avenue. The body will then be taken to the First Christian Church where additional services will be held, conducted by Rev. M. Lee Sorey. Interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery.
