He was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Advance, N.C., son of the late Joseph Elkeniah and Mary Winters Allen.
James was a member and a lay minister at Living Word Tabernacle, Gastonia. He was a WWII Army Veteran.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday at Living Word Tabernacle, Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Tim Humes.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
He is survived by his sons and daughters in-law, Steve and Cecile Allen, Joey and Judy Allen; daughters and son in-law, Mel-ody and Melvin Lane, Marsha Jones, Myra Allen, Lisa Allen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae T. Allen and a son, James Phillip Allen.
