Samuel joined Company F, 35th Georgia Infantry, CSA, Sep 1861, Gwinnett Co., GA. Served with Army of Virginia until two days before Lee's surrender at Appomatox when he was left sick with the "fever". Held the rank of 2d Corporal when released. Unit was in most major battles in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
He was a sharecropper- no record of him ever owning a farm. Died near Five-forks community, Gwinnett County, Georgia.
