Darwin T. Scott, 84, Bernardston leader
Darwin T. Scott, 84, of 284a Brattleboro Road died Monday at home. He and his former wife, Alta V., owned and operated the Lunch Box Restaurant here - opposite the Four-Leaf Clover - from 1948 to 1972.
Scott was also president of Bernardston Bus Lines for 27 years, and retired in 1980.
Earlier this year, he donated 28 acres of his land off Routes 5 and 10 to the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlfe for management as a state wildlife preserve.
The property, now called the Darwin T. Scott Wildlife Area, is part wetlands. It was left in its current state in the hopes of attracting various species of wildlife.
Born in Hawley, Scott attended the former Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. He moved to Buckland as a youngster, and in 1930 moved to Springfield, and then to Bernardston in 1942. He was a member of the Bernardston Grange for many years.
He leaves a son, four sisters, two brothers, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday afternoon in Mary Lyon Church, with burial at Buckland Union Cemetery, both in Buckland. There are no calling hours, and Walker Funeral Home of Greenfield is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 33 Fourth Ave., Needham, 02194.
