Arvin "Ray" Cline, 81, of Hickory, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 26, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley with his loving family at his side.
He had been in declining health since April 2007.
Ray was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Hickory, Catawba County, to the late A. Russell and Annie Roseman Cline,
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jayle Hogan Smith Cline.
Ray attended Hickory City Schools and graduated from Hickory High School in 1945. He was an employee of Ford Motor Co. for 47 years. He served in the parts department of Armstrong Ford for the past 39 years, including parts manager up until his death.
Ray served in the U.S. Navy and Marinc Corps.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Peggy Simpson Cline, two sons, six grandchildren, one great-grandson, a sister, two sisters-in-law, and a number of nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great, nephews.
Ray was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church ELCA for 58 years and enjoyed serving as an usher.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in the Mountain View community, with the Reverend Woodard officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors conducted by members of American Legion Post 48.
Pallbearers will include family members and co-workers at Armstrong Ford.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory in Hickory is serving the family and is in charge of arrangements.
