Dudgeon was a graduate of Iowa State College and professor of biology at Ewing Christian College, a Presbyterian mission college in Allahabad, India. He had taken a one-year furlough from the college in India to take graduate work at Iowa State in research in biology. He died of influenza at the Iowa State College Hospital after an illness of one week.
Survivors included his wife and two daughters.
