In June 1874, she confessed faith in Christ and became a member of ten Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, transferring her membership after marriage in the Methodist Episcopal Church, but the faith of her Scotch ancestors was always dearest to her heart.
On Oct 31, 1877, she was united in marriage with Tomas Delany Lewis and lived to happily celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. To the union was born three children.
She received her education at her grandfather's home in Fr. School Kansas, at Madame Branch's seminary in Macomb, Ill and at Knox College, Galesburg, specializing in music. She possessed a unusually keen mind and was intensely interest in current events.
