Father: John Henry and Ella (Bowie) Taylor

John Sanford Taylor and wife Sallie Merle Turner Taylor, better known as Ma and Pa Taylor. The two met at Sam Houston Normal School in Huntsville, Texas where they were students. They married 3 August 1904 in Paris, Texas.

John was born in Iuka, Mississippi on April 7, 1879, the fourth of fourteen children. His father was an ordained Baptist minister who came to Honey Grove, Texas in 1893 after the death of his first wife.

John taught school until 1906 in Sherwood and Frisco, where he was ordained as a Baptist minister. He entered Baylor University and supported his family by pastoring small churches near Waco. He graduated from Baylor in 1913. The Taylors came to Cass County in 1928 where he became pastor in Linden. There were 7 children.

Burying three sons has been the greatest tragedy in their 70 years together. In December 28, 1967, the couple entered Pine Lodge Nursing Home, but were still members of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta.
