Joseph Erwin, born July 24, 1758, in the Parish of Gromlin, County Antrim, Ireland. He never married, but lived as a country gentleman, spending the winters in Philadelphia, at Erwinna. Joseph Erwin did effective service in his country's defense, both at home and in France. He held several important offices, and died February 9, 1807.
