CLINTON — Erwin R. "Buss" Henschel, 73, of Clinton, died Monday at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Holm officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Gene Biermann, Don Ketelsen, Don Roode, Bill Zirkelbach, LeRoy Schoenig, Chris Henschel, Curt Henschel, Bob Shumake, Mike Finn, Ron Hass, Dr. Dale Wulf, Mike Rupp and Don Olson.

He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in St. Paul, Minn., to Erwin and Olga Johnson Henschel. He married Joyce Lowry on Sept. 4, 1954, in La Crosse, Wis.

He was a 1950 graduate of Central High School, La Crosse. He graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and was a Dale Carnegie course graduate.

He was a chemist with the Heileman Brewery, La Crosse, for five years until moving to Clinton in 1960 where he was a chemist at the Clinton Corn Processing Co. from 1960 to 1967. He then sold insurance from 1967 to 1995 with Lincoln National and the Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as president, senior elder, elder and stewardship chairman. He was a member of the Clinton Jaycees. He was past president in 1964. He past vice president of the Iowa Jaycees and past Iowa Jaycee national director. He received Jaycee awards including: Outstanding Young Man, Distinguished Service Award, Key Man Award, Outstanding Chapter President, State of Iowa Jaycees, Lifetime Honorary Membership Award with the Clinton Jaycees and was elected to the Jaycee International Senate, the highest Jaycee Award. He was a Riverboat Days commodore in 1970. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Clinton were he served as president in 1974. He was a lieutenant governor of Illinois-Eastern Iowa Kiwanis Division 16 and board member of the Spastic-Paralysis Research Foundation of Illinois-Eastern Iowa Kiwanis District. He received the following Kiwanis awards: Past Distinguished President, Legion of Honor Award for 35 years of membership, Ruby K New Member Award and 34 years of perfect attendance award. He was president of the Clinton Life Underwriters Association, past president of the Quad-City chapter of CLU and ChFC Society, past president of the Quad-City chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning, past member of the Quad-City Estate Plan Council and Clinton Estate Planning Council.

He was a member of the Deferred Gifts Committee with the Samaritan Heath Systems Foundation, University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, Alumni Foundation, Gifts Committee and lifetime member of the Alumni Association, board of directors of Clinton County Historical Society with the Accessions Committee and Buy a Brick Campaign chairman, member of the Gideon's-Clinton Camp where he served as a secretary and president. He also was a member of the Mayor's Historical Preservation Commission.

Survivors include his wife; two sons: Steven Henschel of Dubuque and Warren Henschel of Dubuque; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Phyllis (Ernie) Retzlaff of Bela Vista, Ark.; and one niece, one nephew and one cousin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one cousin.
