Charles Hunter Anderson, 81, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002.
He was born in Charlotte County, Va., on May 12, 1920. He had been a Peninsula resident for 60 years. Mr. Anderson was a charter member of Ivy Farms Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and on the Building and Grounds Committee and Chairman of the Ushers. He affectionately was known by members of the church as Charlie Brown and was loved by all. He was a former employee of Newport News Shipbuilding as a boilermaker and retired from Modern Machine. Mr. Anderson can be remembered for his love for woodworking and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter J. Anderson and Mattie O. Anderson; a sister, Ellie Anderson; and brother, Lorenza Anderson.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ethel J. Anderson; daughters, Charlotte Cale, Judy Davis and husband, Randy, both of Newport News; grandsons, Jamie and John Cale; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, at Ivy Farms Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Hall, Dr. Fred King and the Rev. Marshall Mason. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
