Donald J. Hodgdon, 81, of Silver Lake, died Sept. 7, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. Don was born in Northumberland on Aug. 31, 1920, son of H. Dewey and Hazel McIntyre Hodgdon. He was raised in Milan. During World War II he worked for Pratt and Whitney in Worcester, Mass., building airplane parts. After the war he returned to Milan and worked for his father and then as an independent truck and school bus owner and operator. He served on the Milan Volunteer Fire Department, and for a time housed the fire trucks in his garage. He served as Milan selectman for nine years. He moved to the Concord area in 1960, where he owned and operated a Snap-On Tool Franchise. After his retirement in 1983 he moved to the Conway, Fryeburg, Silver Lake area. Don is predeceased by his first wife of 39 years, Jenny Jansen Hodgdon, who died in 1980; his parents; and his sister, Ellen Hodgdon Clement. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Doris (Wright) Hodgdon of Silver Lake; his daughter Kay Hodgdon Warren of Concord; his son Lary Hodgdon of Contoocook; two grandchildren, Kristine Taylor Harvey of Boscawen and Jessica Taylor Salach of Raymond; two step-daughters, Deborah Ryan-Dolleman of Kittery, Maine, and Betsy Eaton of Freedom; four step-grandchildren, Kim Ryan, Stacy Prinz, Barry and Jeanette Eaton; two great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association; no flowers please. Interment will be in the Pembroke Evergreen Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee is in charge of arrangements.
