Harmon was born in the German province of Hess-Kassel in the 1750s and died 1842 Spencer Co. KY. Prior to his conscription in the military service of his country, he had been a weaver. These soldiers came from upper and middle class families. Schneider, the German spelling of Snider was one of 29,839 Hessian solders sold to the British government for service in the American Revolution. Harmon married another German Elizabeth Bowman daughter of an officer in Washington's army. Elizabeth was never forgiven for the marriage by her father, and he immediately dis-inherited her. Elizabeth never forgave her father. The Sniders lived in Philadelphia until 1789 at which time they and their five children migrated to what is now Washington Co. KY. , but at their time of settlement it was Lincoln Co. Va. In 1804 they moved to Nelson Co. KY. around the Big Springs area. In 1805 they moved to Shelby (Spencer Co. KY) in the Culpepper School area. The Sniders are buried in the Old Glass Cemetery in unmarked graves.
