"Rev. John J. Allen was educated at Whitestown Seminary and Biblical School. He began to preach in 1849 and was ordained in September 1853. He baptized about 300 converts during his ministry in the area where he had served so long. For 20 years he served as the clerk and treasurer of the Jefferson Quarterly Meeting, and had been a delegate to one of the General Conferences."
