LORETTA HOUGHTON MATTHEWS, 76, of Beaumont died, August 9, 2004 at Houston Northwest Medical Center. A native of Los Angeles, California, Loretta had been a resident of Beaumont since 1966 and was a Bookkeeper for Gordon's Jewelers. She is survived by her sons, Paul Eric Matthews of Beaumont and David Matthews and his wife Rita of Austin; daughters, Deborah Guttilla and her husband, Sal and Carol Harrell and her husband, Jesse all of Houston; sisters, Harriet Felber of Crowley, Louisiana and Elizabeth Hebert Leger of Lafayette, Louisiana; brother, Charles Houghton of Crowley; seven grandchildren, Emily Matthews, Gabi Matthews, Kai Matthews, Megan Harrell, Rebecca Harrell, Hannah Harrell and Sara Guttilla; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Matthews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 13, 2004 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday evening, August 12, 2004 from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a Christian Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
